Maria Uve has focused her work on two great passions, illustration and photography. Two areas that, influencing and complementing each other, have allowed her to adopt a visual language that everyone can understand .The leitmotif of his drawings are human relationships, which the Spanish artist represents naturally and sincerely. The delicate but decisive stroke winks at the comic but with a less didactic approach.
The protagonists are young women and men grappling with their feelings and their inner self . A touch of eroticism, elegantly veiled, gives expressive power to the situations represented. The bodies are twisted, the souls are lost between sighs, beats and tears. The skin is covered with small blue tattoos that, far from representing a fine fashion to itself, become an integral part of the visual narration. The approach recalls that of Italian authors such as Pietro Tenuta (who has already collaborated with Maria in the realization of a splendid four-handed illustration ) and Giulia Rosa .
Hello, welcome to Picame. Let’s start with a brief introduction for our readers.
My name is Maria Victoria, my stage name is mariauve . I’m Spanish, I live in Vigo, which is a city in Galicia.
How would you describe your style?
I would define my style as an attempt at visual poetry, with full colors. You could say that it looks a bit like the comic, but more literary.
What are your sources of inspiration?
I am very inspired by photography and the feelings I try to explain to myself. With my illustrations I try to naturalize the body and human relationships through everyday images. I believe in love as a form of protest against anything. I fight against irrational censorship and discrimination between people.
Which technique do you use?
For personal work I use the traditional technique, for those for which I am known I use digital drawing.
What’s on your desk?
A PC and a very old graphic tablet, which I hope to replace soon 🙂
Three artists that you feel advised to our readers.
It is very difficult to name three, I will try choosing very different artists. I really like the animations of Xaviera Lopez , the naive and sensual style of @porous_walker and finally Ricardo Cavolo .
